"The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical event. Hiking 2 miles up a snow and ice covered mountain = falling a couple times, multiple stops to catch our breath, muscle soreness and maybe a few second thoughts. Getting to the top and seeing that view= priceless 🙌 • • twins

"When they burst through, a small chain of colorful mountains appeared below them. The range spanned from the deepest, darkest blue to the shiniest, brightest white and everything in between. The foot of each mountain was a single color– midnight blue, mossy green, burnt amber – and this color, whatever it was, was the darkest shade it could be. As the color moved up the mountains, the shade grew lighter and lighter until it reached the peak. The peaks were glorious pastels, shimmering with only the faintest pigment." - Paige Brit 💙 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . _explorers _color _ladies _nature _nature folk _countryside _features _mood

This is the cabin of the first Anglo settler of Cades Cove at Great Smoky Mountains National Park, John Oliver, who came in 1818 and built this cabin in 1822. The National Park Service has restored/preserved many of the pre-Civil War structures in Cades Cove. The settlers who lived here were staunch abolitionists and many were part of the Underground Railroad to help escaped slaves head north. Despite Tennessee seceding from the Union during the Civil War, the residents here remained loyal to the Union and suffered at the hands of Confederate marauders through the war with the area not fully recovering until 1900. When we were making the short hike up to the cabin, we chatted with an elderly gentleman who it turns out John Oliver was his great-great grandfather and many of his descendants still live in the Tennessee side of the national park. First picture of me other than my profile, I think. At first I wanted this just to be a place for my / photos because I wasn’t comfortable putting pictures of myself up. But now that I’m starting to lean a little towards / life photos, and people really seem to like them, I thought I might try these photos out too. adventures camping culture babes weathercamping photography photography
