One year ago today, Melissa and had to throw together a back-up wedding in five hours (with the help of all our best friends, thankfully), and what was then one of the most stressful moments ever has, in such a short time, become our most cherished memory together. I'm so looking forward to the next thousand anniversaries. ๐ŸŽž p160

Satoru Matsumoto is the seventh generation of his family to operate the Yazaemon Porcelain Kilns founded in Arita, Kyushu during the Edo Period (read: samurai times). In 2015, Matsumoto-san created the Arita Porcelain Lab to collaborate with fashion and scent brands around the world. And yes - he bikes each day to work in a kimono. ๐Ÿ‘ŒFor OURLAND.

parkerfitzhenry: When I think back on it, this is

When I think back on it, this is the view that made me fall in love with Oregon. This is also almost the precise location of the Eagle Creek fire. I read someone describe the fire as "hearing that someone you love dearly has just been diagnosed with a very fast acting and fatal cancer." That description hit home in an emotional way but I take exception to the metaphor in that I don't believe this fire will be fatal. It will take a heck of a lot of time - maybe much more time than I have here in the Pacific Northwest, but the forests will regrow, the rains will wash the Columbia clean and this view will one day be restored again. But until then, at least I have this photo to look back on and remember. Government Cove, 2013.

parkerfitzhenry: An odd byproduct of working commercially is that

An odd byproduct of working commercially is that at any given time, I'm sitting on a huge amount of work I've shot but that can't be released. I sometimes forget about whole shoots until they finally go live and I get the pleasure of revisiting everything. Here at last I'm able to share some favorites from the first installment of a project months and months in the making called OURLAND - conceived by my friends Keisuke Niro and Taichi Yoshii as a way of highlighting awesome 'not-Tokyo' parts of Japan, we travelled across the southern island of Kyushu visiting with friends and craftsmen of all stripes. Here first is Chiharu Hatakeyama walking the perimeter of one of her rice fields. She is a huntress by trade but works a small farm with her husband Kลichi. They also run a sort of commune called the Itoshima Share-house. They are truly rare people in all the best ways. OURLAND will be exhibited for a month at IMS in Hakata/Fukuoka starting from Sept. 13 - if you're gonna be in Kyushu give it a visit!
