I couldn’t quite capture the glittering frosty effects on the honey sign this morning, but it really was quite lovely. Locals are invited out for honey tasting this Saturday (12/16) from noon to 4. We’ll have 25+ different beekeeper-direct Oregon honeys to try. See you soon!

This is Manny . He painted the gorgeous new honeybee mural on our shop door, but more than that, he’s been helping and me out with beekeeping and honey processing since June. He’s headed back to California next week, which is sad news, BUT he’ll be around for our big mural reveal/honey tasting party this Sunday from noon to 4 if you want to swing by and meet the artist in person. We’re hoping we can talk Manny into coming back next spring for another season of beekeeping and art projects. 🤞🏽🤞🏽

waywardspark: Loot from last night’s #portlandpreservationsociety meeting: fig

Loot from last night’s meeting: fig jam with orange and thyme, pickled jalapeños, apple butter, lemon pickled mustard seeds, spicy pickled okra, cranberry-plum sauce, and green tomato pickle. I brought along to experience the Portlandia-esque scene of a PPS meeting (after being served a pair of novelty antique scissors with a piece of pizza at Roman Candle). He may be confused by Portland’s fashion sense, but I don’t think he’ll complain if I share my pickled jalapeños with him.

waywardspark: I’m really fired up about winter squash

I’m really fired up about winter squash this year in part because my mom grew the best tasting delicata EVER among other beauties. I spent some time photographing her squash in advance of the Portland Fill your Pantry event on Sunday, December 4. Pre-ordering starts this Wednesday, so if you know what’s good, you’ll buy a bunch of squash, potatoes, and onions from farm aka Camille’s parents. portland

I get to look at this mural every day forever and ever, and I am so stoked about that. Manny Arechiga ( ) is an incredibly talented artist. Please click over to his feed to see his beautiful time-lapse video of the whole project (~15 hours in 1 minute). If you ever need a mural painted, I know a guy...

Fun (gross) fact: my hippy parents buried my placenta under this apple tree in 1983. Portland Monthly ( ) has a pretty good article about these pink apples, ‘Airlie Red Flesh’ aka “Hidden Rose’ or ‘Mountain Rose’.
